Samsung Electronics unveiled the foldable smartphone 'Galaxy Fold' at 'Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2019' held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, USA, on the 20th (local time).
The Galaxy Fold is the world's first device to feature a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display. Its key feature is that when folded, it can be used as a compact smartphone with a 4.6-inch cover display.

The Galaxy Fold presents new mobile experiences and possibilities by offering unprecedented powerful multitasking, such as the ability to split the screen and use multiple applications simultaneously.


A new mobile category offering both smartphone and tablet experiences
When unfolded, the Galaxy Fold offers expanded usability with the largest display among Galaxy smartphones. When folded, it can be used comfortably with one hand, providing both tablet and smartphone experiences.

Since first unveiling a flexible display prototype in 2011, Samsung Electronics has introduced the Galaxy Fold through technological innovations in various fields, including materials, mechanisms, and displays.
To provide the most intuitive motion, the 'folding experience,' a new composite polymer material was developed to create a display that is about 50% thinner than existing smartphone displays.

The Galaxy Fold display offers an innovative experience of folding a large-screen device into a compact size for portability, and it folds completely rather than just bending. In addition, it features durability that prevents deformation even after being folded and unfolded multiple times.

By applying newly developed sophisticated hinge technology, the screen can be opened smoothly and naturally like a book, and maintains a flat and thin form when folded.

The Galaxy Fold has completely redesigned every element of the smartphone that the user sees and touches.

A fingerprint sensor is installed on the side where the thumb naturally rests, allowing for easy unlocking of the smartphone, and the battery and smartphone components are balanced to ensure stable use when unfolded.

It also features Space Silver, Cosmos Black, Martian Green, and Astro Blue colors with unique finishes. It completes a sophisticated design where the Samsung logo on the hinge is not visible from the outside when opened, but is exposed when closed.


A new mobile experience only possible with foldables
The Galaxy Fold maximizes the enjoyment of the mobile experience with a new form factor that allows users to switch to the display they need at any given moment.
Even when folded, you can comfortably use all smartphone functions with one hand, and when you unfold the display, you can perform various tasks simultaneously on the large screen. You can vividly enjoy digital magazines, AR content, presentations, and more on a larger screen.

The Galaxy Fold, a new mobile category, offers a completely new user experience, including 'Multi-Active Window' and 'App Continuity'.

The Galaxy Fold allows users to divide the screen into two or three sections as desired, and supports a Multi Active Window feature that enables multiple applications to run simultaneously without freezing.

For example, you can watch the latest videos on the large screen on the left while launching an internet browser on the top right screen to search for the latest reviews. At the same time, you can chat with friends via mobile instant messaging on the bottom right screen.

The Galaxy Fold supports app connectivity, which automatically displays the application the user is using on the cover display and internal display without interruption whether the smartphone is folded or unfolded, or vice versa.

For example, while checking a map application on the cover display with the Galaxy Fold folded, you can continue using the screen you were viewing without interruption even after unfolding the display.

Samsung Electronics plans to collaborate with Google and the Android developer community to optimize various applications and services preferred by users for the Galaxy Fold and introduce them at launch.

The Galaxy Fold is equipped with a high-performance next-generation application processor and 12GB of RAM, powerful like a regular PC, allowing for smooth operation even when using multiple applications simultaneously.

The dual battery system is sufficient for long-term use, and it can also charge other smartphones or Galaxy wearable devices via wireless battery sharing.

Stereo speakers, perfected with a Dynamic AMOLED display and audio technology from Harman's premium audio brand AKG, deliver the ultimate with more vivid colors and sound It provides an entertainment experience.

With the Galaxy Fold, you can instantly capture precious moments with the camera whether the smartphone is folded or unfolded, or in any direction you are using it.
It is equipped with a triple camera on the rear, including a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera with dual aperture, and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera. You can conveniently take selfies with a dual camera consisting of a 10-megapixel camera and an 8-megapixel camera when the smartphone is unfolded, and with a 10-megapixel camera when the smartphone is folded.

It also supports 'Samsung DeX', which allows you to use a smartphone like a PC, the intelligence platform 'Bixby', the mobile security platform 'Samsung Knox', the mobile payment platform 'Samsung Pay', and the comprehensive health management application 'Samsung Health'.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Fold will be released in global markets, including Korea, on April 26. In the U.S., the price of the Galaxy Fold starts at $1,980. This is approximately 2.22 million KRW.
