[MWC19 Preview] Samsung Electronics Livestreams 'MWC19 Official Broadcast' with Commercial 5G Equipment

Samsung Electronics will exclusively livestream Mobile World Live.
Samsung Electronics plans to livestream 'Mobile World Live,' the official broadcast of MWC, to the Fira Gran Via exhibition center in Spain, where MWC19 is being held, and to approximately 280 hotels in the Barcelona area using commercial 5G base stations (AU) and terminals (CPE). Mobile World Live can also be watched worldwide via the internet.
Viewers around the world, including MWC19 visitors, can enjoy Mobile World Live broadcasts of high-definition video (HDTV) transmitted to Samsung 5G commercial base stations and terminals that have replaced existing wired optical cables, without latency.
This demonstration utilizes the 5G base station and terminal commercialized by Samsung Electronics in the U.S. last October, providing ultra-high-speed transmission speeds of up to 1Gbps.
For live broadcasts provided via Samsung Electronics' 5G technology, the 'Broadcast Over Samsung 5G' logo will be displayed at the top left of the TV and video.
"We were able to demonstrate the potential of future broadcasting by leveraging Samsung Electronics' advanced 5G technology at MWC19, the world's largest mobile festival," said Seo Ki-yong, Executive Vice President and Head of Strategy Marketing at Samsung Electronics' Network Business Division. "Going forward, we will continue to showcase various possibilities, including in the entertainment sector, by utilizing the ultra-high speed and ultra-low latency technologies that are the key strengths of 5G communication."
Justin Springham, Head of Media Content & Broadcasting at GSMA, said, “Mobile World Live has experimented with various cutting-edge mobile communication technologies to deliver the event scene more vividly, and we are pleased to be able to provide seamless real-time broadcasting to viewers this year using Samsung Electronics’ commercial 5G technology,” adding, “Samsung Electronics and GSMA will do their best to provide a realistic user experience by utilizing 5G technology.”

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
