Going forward, 5G AI robots will assist hotel guests with their convenience.

KT unveiled the '5G AI Hotel Robot' at MWC19 held in Barcelona, Spain. In KT's exhibition hall's '5G AI Hotel Robot Zone,' a demonstration was presented where robots autonomously deliver convenience amenities (amenity) ordered by hotel guests.
Through the AI hotel robot, KT upgraded the nation's first AI hotel solution unveiled in July of last year to the next level. The service works by allowing guests to order via voice or touch on the GigaGeni hotel terminal, and the AI hotel robot delivers various amenities to guest rooms.

The robot carrying room amenities autonomously determines its route through a pre-created hotel map to find guest rooms. In this process, it can board elevators to move to different floors, and when encountering people along the way, it briefly stops or slows down to move aside.

KT applied cutting-edge technologies including 3D spatial mapping technology, autonomous driving technology, and AI cameras. 5G will also be applied for swift and smooth information transmission. This is because when multiple robots are used, real-time map data sharing in gigabyte (GB) units between robots is necessary.

The AI hotel robot is expected to be implemented in domestic hotels within this year. Starting with 'Novotel Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun Hotel & Residence,' Korea's first AI hotel, KT plans to launch the 5G AI hotel robot service.

Users can request necessary items through GigaGeni hotel via voice, and the robot will deliver them, providing a unique experience. KT expects positive reception from guests who felt burdened by face-to-face services and from hotels needing operational efficiency.

Jeon Hong-beom, Senior Vice President of KT's Convergence Technology Institute, stated, "Our goal this year is to create successful cases in the robot market, which is still in its early stages, based on the AI hotel robot technology showcased at MWC 2019," and added, "Furthermore, we plan to provide differentiated services through integration with 5G networks."
