KT Creates a Smart Power Generation Environment with Intelligent 5G Drone Infrastructure

Southern Power Co., Ltd. Continuously Demonstrates Project Realization
KT announced on the 12th that it signed an MOU with Korea Southern Power, Woori Aviation, and ThinkSpace at the KT Gwanghwamun East Building for 'joint cooperation to create a safe smart power generation environment, including strengthening security infrastructure using intelligent drones.'

With this agreement, the four companies will take the lead in creating a safe and smart development environment by ▲developing a continuous and stable drone operation infrastructure based on ICT technologies such as AI and IoT, including drones, ▲developing intelligent drones, and ▲discovering convergence security areas utilizing AI, IoT, and optical infrastructure.
KT has decided to develop a next-generation drone capable of voice recognition control at a maximum flight speed of 100 km/h in cooperation with Woori Aviation and ThinkSpace, which possess core drone technologies, to build an intelligent drone infrastructure.
Our airline has developed a drone (KT Changing Drone) that utilizes vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft development technology to improve flight time and top speed, and ThinkSpace is the developer of a voice recognition flight control system (GCS).

The drone being developed this time is expected to be an AI voice recognition drone utilizing a 5G network. This will allow non-experts to remotely control the drone using voice commands, preventing the risk of crashes and offering various advantages over existing drones.
In addition, KT and Southern Power will take the lead in creating a safe and convenient smart power generation environment by utilizing 5G networks and advanced ICT technologies, and will further develop the project through continuous verification.
Kim Jun-geun, executive director of KT's Integrated Security Platform Business Unit, said, "KT will present a new security paradigm for the 5G era by utilizing ICT capabilities such as drones, blockchain, and AI." He added, "Through this collaboration, KT and Korea Southern Power will lead the power generation market in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution by discovering convergence security services and expanding the ecosystem."

LG U+, "Stride" to Make Drone-based Precise Inspection of Social Infrastructure a Reality
LG Uplus successfully demonstrated precision inspection of social infrastructure by using its U+ drone control system to monitor natural gas pipeline burial areas in real-time, thereby preventing risks in advance. This demonstration was conducted as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's drone regulatory sandbox pilot project, which promotes the practical implementation and early commercialization of drones by allowing companies to discover new business models and freely conduct safety tests without regulatory restrictions for a specified period in the drone sector. Based on beyond-visual-line-of-sight autonomous flight, LG Uplus conducted demonstrations including real-time imaging of natural gas pipeline burial areas using 3D maps, airspace radio maps, and airspace weather information, real-time monitoring of burial areas and requests to stop illegal construction, and ground displacement detection, thereby protecting the relevant area from potential damage.
