KT Signs Agreement with SBS, TVU, and LiveU for 5G Live Broadcasting
Pushing to provide ultra-low latency broadcasting services with 'Enterprise 5G'

KT announced on the 18th that it will introduce a 5G network-based UHD live broadcasting service.

KT will unveil a UHD live broadcast utilizing a 5G network for the first time on the third segment of the SBS live program "Morning Wide" on the 19th. The 5G network-based UHD live broadcast will utilize KT's "Enterprise 5G" service and "5G MNG (Mobile News Gathering)" equipment. MNG refers to a method of transmitting video captured by broadcast cameras over a wireless network.
Currently, broadcasters conduct relay broadcasts in areas where it is difficult for broadcast vans to enter, using LTE MNG equipment equipped with an average of 5 to 11 SIM cards. Video filmed on-site is transmitted to the broadcasting station via LTE MNG equipment equipped with SIM cards from various carriers, and the video data is split and transmitted through the network of the carrier with a smooth network connection. When broadcasting using such LTE MNG equipment, technical limitations occurred in the LTE network, including speed delays and degradation of image quality due to factors such as video transmission and video processing time on the server.

5G MNG equipped with KT's 'Enterprise 5G' service enables the transmission of ultra-high-definition video using only a single 5G SIM card. Unlike LTE MNG, 5G MNG equipped with 'Enterprise 5G' is characterized by transmitting UHD video with minimal latency through a broadcaster-dedicated 5G network separated from the general network.

KT completed the verification of 5G network-based UHD video transmission technology on January 23. On the 6th of this month, it succeeded in a UHD broadcast relay test using its 'Enterprise 5G' service. On the 13th of this month, it signed an agreement for the 'commercialization of 5G video transmission' with global broadcast equipment companies TVU Networks Corporation and LiveU Ltd., and on the same day, signed a business agreement with SBS for the 'world's first 5G-based UHD live broadcast.'
