It has become possible to make calls to smartphones using AI speakers.

SK Telecom announced on the 7th that it has launched the 'NUGU call' service, which enables free voice calls between NUGU speakers, between NUGU speakers and the NUGU app, and between NUGU apps.

With Nugu Call, you can make and receive calls after linking your Nugu device to the Nugu app and adding your contacts. When A calls B, if A says "Call B" to the Nugu speaker, B can receive the call on their preferred device, either the Nugu speaker or the Nugu app. To answer via the Nugu speaker, simply say "Answer the call."

Nugu Call is equipped with SK Telecom's 'call quality enhancement processing technology,' ensuring quality and volume similar to speaking right next to you, even when speaking from a distance of 2 meters. In addition, it maintains high accuracy during voice commands by applying a Personalized Language Model (PLM).

The Nugu Call service is available to all customers who own the previously released Nugu, Nugu Mini, or Nugu Candle, regardless of their mobile carrier.

Lee Hyun-ah, Head of the AI Service Platform Division at SK Telecom, stated, “With the launch of NUGU Call, we have created an environment where customers can make calls conveniently anytime and anywhere,” adding, “Going forward, SK Telecom plans to continue developing various AI-based communication services and integrating them into NUGU.”

An app for iOS, not Android, is scheduled for release later.
