Korea Promotes 13 Out of 55 International Standards for Medical Information
The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 12th that it has dispatched Korean standardization experts to the 31st International Standardization Meeting on Medical Information (ISO/TC 215) being held in Sweden from the 13th to the 17th (local time).
A delegation consisting of 29 experts from industry, academia, research institutes, and hospitals, including Samsung Seoul Hospital, Kyungpook National University, Health All, and the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine, will strategically promote the 'Quality and Interchange of Genomic Information' standard and three draft standards currently under international standardization work to realize personalized precision medicine.
The three types are ▲ specifications for next-generation sequencing-based clinical genomic data exchange, ▲ items for quality control of next-generation genomic analysis, and ▲ structured Gene Fusion reports for electronic medical records.
In particular, to enable Korea to lead new application industries such as medical AI, we plan to propose two new technical reports (TR), including 'Application Cases of Medical Artificial Intelligence,' and propose international standards (NP) based on them in the future.
Also the secretary of the recently established 'Genomics Informatics' subcommittee (TC215/SC1).We plan to secure the support of experts from participating countries so that we can take on the role.
Korea is pursuing 13 of the 55 international standards currently being worked on by the International Organization for Standardization of Medical Information. In particular, it is actively proposing ICT-based smart health standard technologies as international standards, such as 'Healthcare-AI' and 'Health-Cloud,' which integrate core technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution into medical information.
An official from the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards stated, “We expect these global standardization efforts to act as a catalyst for creating a medical service market in Korea in the future,” adding, “We plan to lay the foundation to become a strong nation in standards by hosting the International Standardization Conference on Medical Information in Korea this November.”

Samsung Electronics-Samsung Medison Unveil Latest Medical Devices at International Medical Equipment-Hospital Equipment Exhibition
삼성전자와 삼성메디슨은 제35회 국제의료기기·병원설비전시회에 참가하여 자사의 최신 의료기기와 진단 보조 기능들을 대거 선보였다. 이번 전시회에서 삼성은 산부인과, 영상의학과, 정형외과 등 진료과 다변화를 위한 초음파 진단기기 전 라인업과 엑스레이 방사선 피폭량을 획기적으로 줄인 저선량 디지털 엑스레이를 집중적으로 전시했다. 삼성은 올해 2월부터 하복부·비뇨기 초음파에도 건강보험이 적용됨에 따라 초음파 진단 수요가 늘어날 것으로 보고, 개원의를 주 대상으로 마련한 초음파 진단기기 사용 입문 교육을 전시회 마지막 날 진행했다.

Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy dispatches delegation to AI international standardization meeting to secure leadership
산업통상자원부 국가기술표준원은 더블린에서 개최되는 제3차 AI 국제표준화 회의에 산학연관 전문가 15명으로 구성된 대표단을 파견해 글로벌 표준 주도권 확보에 나섰다고 밝혔다. 한국 대표단은 AI 기술의 핵심 화두인 다양한 산업분야에 활용 가능한 AI 데이터 생태계 마련을 위한 새로운 스터디그룹 설립을 제안하고, 美日中 등 주요 참여국의 지지확보 활동을 병행하였다. 신설될 스터디그룹은 가공되지 않은 일반 데이터를 AI 기술에 바로 적용이 가능한 표준 포맷의 고품질 데이터를 만들 수 있게 지원하는 것을 목표로 하고 있어 스마트 제조, IoT 가전, 자율주행 등 AI 표준을 필요로 하는 산업계의 큰 도움이 될 것으로 예상된다.
