LG Electronics is partnering with world-class universities to cultivate top experts in the field of AI.
LG Electronics announced on the 22nd that it will operate an education and certification program to foster 'AI Specialists' in cooperation with Carnegie Mellon University in the United States and the University of Toronto in Canada.
LG Electronics recently selected 12 in-house master's and doctoral-level AI developers for training through technical interviews. The technical interviews were conducted by professors from each university, directly verifying the trainees' AI-related knowledge and expertise.
Selected trainees will receive 1:1 guidance from professors at each university for the next 16 weeks and carry out individual projects in the fields of voice intelligence, image intelligence, and control intelligence. Afterwards, the project results are reviewed by the certification committee, including the supervising professor, and the candidate is selected as an LG Electronics AI expert.
LG Electronics AI experts will develop core solutions to solve problems in major AI projects and serve as mentors to enhance the capabilities of researchers in the AI field.
Carnegie Mellon University was the first in the world to offer a master's and doctoral program in machine learning in 2002, and the University of Toronto is known as a mecca for AI and has achieved outstanding research results.
Since last year, LG Electronics has established a strategic partnership with the University of Toronto. Building on Canada's AI research infrastructure, LG Electronics has secured core AI technologies, a future growth engine. Having established the Toronto AI Lab, LG Electronics is focusing on securing core technologies through advanced deep learning research, while also collaborating with local AI startups and other leading universities in Canada.
Additionally, we have been running a 'Software Architect' training program with Carnegie Mellon University since 2011.
LG Electronics Chief Technology Officer Park Il-pyeong said, “We will lead the AI era by establishing strategic partnerships with world-class universities in the field of AI research and fostering AI experts with problem-solving capabilities and technological leadership.”
Meanwhile, LG Electronics operates various in-house certification systems, including software coding experts, software architects, software quality experts, and software security experts.

Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy dispatches delegation to AI international standardization meeting to secure leadership
산업통상자원부 국가기술표준원은 더블린에서 개최되는 제3차 AI 국제표준화 회의에 산학연관 전문가 15명으로 구성된 대표단을 파견해 글로벌 표준 주도권 확보에 나섰다고 밝혔다. 한국 대표단은 AI 기술의 핵심 화두인 다양한 산업분야에 활용 가능한 AI 데이터 생태계 마련을 위한 새로운 스터디그룹 설립을 제안하고, 美日中 등 주요 참여국의 지지확보 활동을 병행하였다. 신설될 스터디그룹은 가공되지 않은 일반 데이터를 AI 기술에 바로 적용이 가능한 표준 포맷의 고품질 데이터를 만들 수 있게 지원하는 것을 목표로 하고 있어 스마트 제조, IoT 가전, 자율주행 등 AI 표준을 필요로 하는 산업계의 큰 도움이 될 것으로 예상된다.
