SKT and SBS Sign MOU to Develop 5G-Based New Media Business

SK Telecom and SBS announced on April 30 that they signed an MOU at the SBS building in Mokdong, Seoul, to jointly develop various new media businesses based on 5G.
The two companies plan to explore various new solutions and businesses in the new media field based on 5G in the future.
With this, SK Telecom has signed MOUs with all three broadcasting companies to develop new media businesses, completing preparations to bring about 5G-based innovation across the domestic broadcasting industry.
SK Telecom and SBS plan to jointly develop a live broadcasting system utilizing 5G technology and apply it on a trial basis in various fields such as news, sports, and event broadcasting. In particular, we plan to pursue experimental attempts to incorporate 5G into the reporting field, including live news broadcasts and online live content transmission.
SK Telecom and SBS also plan to comprehensively cooperate on the production and commercialization of next-generation media, including 5G-based digital advertising business, AR, and holograms.
The two companies plan to combine SK Telecom's media technology capabilities with SBS's content production and broadcasting capabilities for business development.
SK Telecom will provide ▲support for broadcast production using 5G equipment and terminals ▲opportunities for linking with other ICT services owned by the company, and SBS will ▲promote the application of 5G technology to its broadcast production environment ▲opportunities for experimental content production using jointly developed solutions, etc.
SBS Strategic Planning Director Jeong Seung-min said, “Starting with this collaboration, we will begin a new attempt to innovate the broadcasting industry by utilizing 5G technology,” and “By combining the strengths of both companies, we will create a new wind in the new media field.”
Kim Hyuk, head of SK Telecom's 5GX Media Business Group, said, "We expect that by incorporating 5G from the broadcast production stage, we will be able to create innovative cases that are completely different from the past," and added, "In the future, we will present new solutions in the broadcasting field based on SK Telecom's media technology."

KT Opens World's First 5G-Based UHD Live Broadcasting Era
KT는 19일 SBS 생방송 모닝와이드 3부를 통해 5G 네트워크를 활용한 UHD 생방송을 최초로 공개한다. 5G 네트워크 기반의 UHD 생중계는 KT의 ‘기업전용 5G’ 서비스와 ‘5G MNG’ 장비를 활용한다. MNG는 방송용 카메라로 촬영한 영상을 무선 네트워크로 전송하는 방식을 말한다. KT의 기업전용 5G 서비스가 적용된 5G MNG는 5G 유심 한 개만으로 초고화질 영상 전송이 가능하다. LTE MNG와 달리, ‘기업전용 5G’가 적용된 5G MNG는 일반망과 분리된 방송사 전용 5G 네트워크를 통하여 UHD 영상을 지연을 최소화하여 전송하는 것이 특징이다.

SK Telecom Launches NUGU Call Service, Enabling Calls via AI Speaker
SK텔레콤이 누구 스피커 끼리, 누구 스피커와 누구 앱 간, 누구 앱 끼리 무료로 음성 통화가 가능한 누구 콜 서비스를 출시했다고 밝혔다. 누구 콜은 누구 앱에서 누구 디바이스를 연동시킨 후, 보유 연락처를 추가하면 수발신이 가능하다. 또한 SK텔레콤의 통화 품질 향상 처리 기술이 적용되어 2m 떨어진 거리에서 말해도 바로 옆에서 말한 것과 유사한 수준의 품질과 음량을 보장한다. 이외에도 개인화 음성인식 모델을 적용해 음성명령 시 높은 정확도를 유지한다.

유럽특허청(EPO)의 ‘기술 대시보드 2025’에 따르면 지난해 유럽 특허 출원은 20만1974건으로 처음 20만건을 넘었다. 한국 기업과 발명가의 출원은 1만4355건으로 전년보다 9.5% 증가해 국가별 5위를 유지했다. 배터리와 디지털 통신, 반도체가 증가세를 이끌었고, 삼성은 2년 연속 EPO 최대 출원 기업, LG는 3위에 올랐다. 서울·수원·용인 등 국내 주요 도시의 존재감도 확인됐다. 한국의 유럽 특허 전략이 개별 기술을 넘어 산업 전반으로 확장되고 있다는 점도 드러났다.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
