PTC supplies Vuforia, its AR development platform, to Samsung Electronics, to be used in Samsung's HA AR app.
Published2019.05.14 09:40PTC Korea announced on the 13th that it supplied the AR development platform 'Vuforia' to Samsung Electronics' home appliance division.
Samsung Electronics has launched 'Samsung HA (Samsung Home Appliance) AR', an augmented reality mobile application based on Vuforia.
Samsung HA AR is an application that helps you see and understand the innovative technologies applied to Samsung Electronics' major home appliances more intuitively through augmented reality.
Consumers can visit Samsung Digital Plaza in Korea or global distribution stores and check out the product's special features in 3D AR through an application installed on a tablet.
It can be used in two modes: AR mode and video mode. In AR mode, you can recognize the AR mark displayed on home appliances and experience the technology and operating principles applied to the product as AR content.
In video mode, you can view detailed product information from various angles through 3D video at any time with the AR mark recognized once.
PTC Korea CEO Park Hye-kyung said,"Augmented reality technology is changing the way consumers choose products. Instead of relying on fragmented text and images, consumers can now access rich, information-rich 3D content, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of products and make optimal choices," he said.
He continued, “Through collaboration with Samsung Electronics, one of the companies driving innovation the fastest, we are able to provide a new user experience,” and added, “Based on this case, we plan to continue collaborating with various companies that require AR strategies.”
Vuforia is a software development platform that uses intelligent computer vision technology to help developers build apps with AR experiences that leverage real-world physical environments.
Samsung HA AR utilizes Vuforia's Image Targets feature to realistically detect and display in-store products, making it easy to differentiate products.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is currently providing AR experiences centered around products such as washing machines, AirDressers, and dishwashers, and plans to continuously expand product content through consumer feedback.
