Seoul Subway Line 2 Transforms into Smart Stations

| Pilot operation in the second quarter of next year
Seoul Subway Line 2 is becoming more intelligent.
LG Uplus announced on the 3rd that it will begin a full-scale project to apply 'smart stations' to 50 subway lines on Line 2 in cooperation with Seoul Metro.

The two companies held a launch briefing session with these contents at the Seoul Metro headquarters in Dapsimni on the 3rd and announced that the smart station project has entered full swing. Smart stations are future-oriented urban railway stations that have introduced intelligent integrated management systems to improve safety, security, and operational efficiency.
The core of this project is to improve the functions of subway stations, integrate systems, and build a dedicated 5G network.
▲The main points include a 3D MAP that allows station staff to more quickly grasp information and respond in the event of an emergency, ▲intelligent CCTV that further enhances station safety and security with virtual patrols using CCTV screens by location, ▲a metro IoT integrated platform that supports facility management, safety and security enhancement, passenger services, and train operation, ▲processing of multiple high-definition CCTV data, and construction of a 5G dedicated network that serves as the foundation for VR training solutions for station staff.
LG U+ and Seoul Metro plan to complete the construction of the smart station by March of next year and begin pilot operations in the second quarter. They also plan to explore opportunities for future expansion overseas.
Choi Joo-sik, Vice President of LG Uplus Corporate Division, said, “We are preparing various plans to ensure that LG Uplus’ ICT technologies, such as 5G, IoT, and AI, can be utilized appropriately in the public sector,” and added, “We will continue to work with Seoul Metro to steadily evolve the future subway station based on ‘SCM (Smart Connected Metro)’.”
Meanwhile, LG U+ led the Seoul Metro's 'Smart Station' pilot project in April of last year, and built a smart environment including 3D maps, intelligent CCTV, and IoT sensors at Gunja Station on Subway Line 5.

LG Uplus announced that it is stepping up efforts to implement 'Smart Connected Metro' by combining the latest ICT technologies with Seoul Metro's subway infrastructure. To this end, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding a 'pilot project for implementing SCM (Smart Connected Metro)' at Seoul Metro's headquarters in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, with the attendance of Kong Jun-il, head of LG Uplus's Corporate Division, and Choi Jung-gyun, head of Seoul Metro's Technology Division, and agreed to cooperate with each other. Ride the Seoul Subway Safer with U+ LTE-R
LG Uplus announced on the 23rd that it has secured a 30.4 billion won contract for the integrated railway wireless communication network project for Seoul Metro Lines 2 and 5. Uplus plans to upgrade the aging train wireless system to the LTE-R method to respond to increasing wireless communication demands from Seoul Metro and contribute to safe train operations.

KT to Significantly Expand 5G In-Building Coverage to 1,000 Locations
KT announced that it will launch 5G services in large buildings such as major KTX stations and Gimpo Airport that are frequented by many customers. Since February 2018, KT has been preparing 5G in-building repeater equipment with domestic small and medium-sized partner companies, and completed the development for the first time in the country last January after approximately 10 months. Subsequently, KT will begin full-scale equipment deployment after undergoing thorough quality verification processes with small and medium-sized partners and major equipment developers. In-building services require equipment installation in complex building interiors with limited space, so infrastructure construction is generally carried out jointly through consultation among the three telecommunications carriers. To date, 119 in-building locations have been confirmed for joint construction by the three carriers and are currently under development, with KT overseeing 95 of these, which represents 80%.
