Nordic's cellular IoT module, the nRF9160 SiP, has achieved key certifications and is now entering volume production.

The nRF9160 SiP has reached mass production silicon, enabling widespread deployment of LTE-M and NB-IoT cellular networks and cellular IoT product applications worldwide.
Nordic Semiconductor today announced that its nRF9160 SiP LTE-M/NB-IoT and GPS cellular IoT module has successfully completed quality assurance and key certifications, and is now in the final silicon production phase for volume production.
Key certifications include GCF and PTCRB, FCC (US and Latin America), CE (Europe), ISED (Canada), ACMA (Australia and New Zealand), TELEC/RA (Japan), NCC (Taiwan), and IMDA (Singapore).
Measuring 10 x 16 x 1mm, the nRF9160 SiP is ideal for small wearable consumer and medical devices, as well as small asset tracking devices, and is a solution that integrates cellular connectivity with IoT applications, requiring only an external battery, SIM, and antenna.
The nRF9160 SiP's modem and MCU have been redesigned for optimized power performance in IoT systems. This enables nRF9160 SiP-based devices to connect to cellular networks with exceptionally low power consumption.
The nRF9160 SiP is also available in a powerful single-board development kit designed for IoT application developers. The development kit comes with a GitHub-based Software Development Kit (SDK) that supports free development tools, a cloud demo platform, and sample applications to help you easily get started with product development.
To achieve the ultra-high integration of the nRF9160 SiP, Nordic partnered with Qorvo to implement a SiP that integrates the application processor, power management and modem, RF front-end, crystal, and passive components.
The nRF9160 SiP supports global operation through a single SiP family that combines Nordic’s multimode LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and SAW-less transceiver with a custom RF front-end solution from Qorvo.
Additionally, the nRF9160 SiP is a cellular IoT module that integrates Arm's latest Cortex M33 CPU core and supports onboard memory of 1MB flash and 256kB RAM.
The nRF9160 SiP is also the first cellular IoT module to integrate Arm TrustZone and Arm CryptoCell security features to provide Internet-level encryption and application protection for Cortex-M-based devices.
The nRF9160 SiP combines GPS and cellular data to provide more accurate positioning than either technology alone.

Nordic Semiconductor Fully Supports Bluetooth 5.1, Improves Location Services with Direction Finding
지금까지 블루투스 위치정보 서비스는 디바이스 간의 실내 위치를 결정하고 거리를 계산하기 위해 신호 강도를 사용해 왔다. 블루투스 SIG는 지난 1월 28일, 방향 탐지 기능을 지원하는 블루투스 코어 사양 5.1버전을 발표했다. 방향 탐지 기능을 이용하면, 디바이스는 원거리 정보 외에도 다른 블루투스 장치의 신호 방향까지 파악할 수 있어 위치 정확도를 향상할 수 있다. 노르딕 관계자는 노르딕의 모든 블루투스 디바이스는 새로운 블루투스 5.1 버전의 사양을 완벽하게 지원할 것이라고 밝혔다.
