The 'Intelligent Semiconductor Forum' has been launched to discuss development plans for Korea's intelligent semiconductor industry.
On the 24th, the Ministry of Science and ICT held the founding general meeting, commemorative ceremony, and seminar of the Intelligent Semiconductor Forum at the Novotel Ambassador Seoul Gangnam with approximately 100 people from industry, academia, and research in attendance.
The Intelligent Semiconductor Forum shares the latest trends and development directions of intelligent semiconductor technology with industry, academia, and research institutes, and explores measures for human resource development, standardization, and industry-academia cooperation.
The forum was attended by approximately 170 members from approximately 60 companies and institutions, including large corporations, domestic fabless companies, overseas companies such as Intel and Nvidia, universities, and public research institutes. Within the forum, a technology committee, an ecosystem committee, and an industry-academia cooperation committee will be formed to conduct specialized discussions in each field.
Professor Emeritus Park Young-jun of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University was elected as the forum chairman at the inaugural general meeting.
The commemorative seminar was held under the theme of “Future Strategies for Intelligent Semiconductor Industry and Technology to Lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” and domestic and international intelligent semiconductor technology and industry trends, as well as research roadmaps, were presented.
Min Won-ki, Second Vice Minister of Science and ICT, attending the ceremonyHe said, “At a time when the semiconductor industry, a core part of the Korean economy, is facing difficulties, it is very meaningful to have created a forum for the best experts from industry, academia, and research to share the latest technologies and discuss development plans through mutual cooperation.”
He continued, “The government also plans to actively support the private sector and further expand investment to strengthen technological competitiveness through securing core technologies.”

Arm-based SoC development now possible without a license.
A path is now open for companies to start projects without purchasing IP licenses when designing Arm-based SoCs. Arm has introduced a new contract model called Flexible Access, further expanding the ways existing and new partners can access and license Arm technology for semiconductor design. With Flexible Access, SoC design teams can start projects without having purchased IP licenses, and then pay only for the IPs actually used at the time of production. Through Flexible Access, companies can support design teams in experimenting, evaluating, and innovating more freely.

Ministry of SMEs and Startups to Intensively Foster SMEs and Ventures in System Semiconductors, AI, and Future Vehicles
중소벤처기업부 내에 시스템반도체, AI, 미래차 등 신산업 분야를 집중 육성하는 미래산업전략팀이 설치된다. 팀은 2021년까지 2년간 한시적으로 운영한다. 중기부는 시스템반도체, AI, 미래차 등 신산업 분야 육성을 위해 중소기업과 현장 소통을 강화할 예정이다. 전문멘토단 150명을 구성하여 멘토와 기업간 상시 컨설팅도 진행하게 된다.
