LG Electronics has introduced a safer and more economical energy storage device for small-scale solar power plants.

LG Electronics launched an all-in-one ESS (Energy Storage System) for solar power generation on the 13th, boasting a 100kW (kilowatt) capacity. This integrated product integrates various ESS components into a single unit, enhancing the economic efficiency and safety of the all-in-one ESS released in 2018.
All-in-one ESS is easy to install as it is a package that includes a power conditioning system (PCS), a power management system (PMS), a battery, an air conditioner, a fire extinguishing system, and a distribution panel that stores generated power in the battery.

The new product features a 313kWh (kilowatt-hour) battery, a 14% increase over the previous model. According to the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Big Data Center, the average monthly electricity consumption per household in Seoul was 308kWh between July and August 2018. Assuming a daily consumption of 10kWh per household, the new battery can store enough electricity to power approximately 30 households for a day. Also, considering that solar power generation is about 3.7 hours a day and the average daily power generation of a 100kW solar power plant is about 370kWh, the economy and efficiency have been further improved compared to the existing 274kWh capacity battery.

The new product features LG Electronics' 99kW PCS and LG Chem batteries. The battery capacity is maintained at up to 75.4% even after 15 years. LG Electronics provides a three-year free warranty on all components of the all-in-one package.

This product offers 24-hour monitoring, enabling rapid response to any unusual occurrences. Customers can remotely control not only the PCS and battery, but also the air conditioning unit.

LG Electronics further enhanced the safety of its new products in line with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's "Strengthened ESS Pre-Use Inspection Policy" announced in December 2018. While existing products boasted a highly secure design with completely separate PCS, batteries, and distribution panels, LG Electronics has added a non-combustible finish to the interior. Furthermore, the Insulation Monitoring Device (IMD) shuts off battery output if an abnormality occurs, preventing fires in advance.

LG Electronics has proven its fire safety by passing the standards (IEC62477-1, 5.2.4.2) for testing whether fire occurs in the event of an electrical shock under the supervision of global certification agency TUV SUD for its 250kW PCS product, which is the most commonly used for commercial purposes.
