Describing a 5G-based smart factory platform
KT will participate in the 20th Innovative Technology Show 2019 (ITS2019) held at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul from the 26th to the 28th to introduce a 5G manufacturing cloud and smart factory platform for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Smart factories require high-performance servers and storage to collect and analyze massive amounts of data in real time and store and manage it, which costs a lot of money. Small and medium-sized businesses are sympathetic to the need for smart factories, but are having difficulty introducing them due to the cost burden. KT plans to provide a '5G-based manufacturing cloud' so that small and medium-sized businesses can introduce smart factories without the burden of server construction and maintenance.
KT, in collaboration with Telstar Homemel, the chairman of the Smart Factory of the Innobiz Association, will live demonstrate a future smart factory and cyber-physical system (CPS) that operates in conjunction with the 5G manufacturing cloud.
A mini manufacturing process is installed in the exhibition hall, where visitors can see data from collaborative robots and machine vision connected via 5G being transmitted in real time to the control platform, ‘Factory Makers’, for remote monitoring and analysis.
KT is preparing a '5G AI Factory Platform' that applies AI and big data technologies as well as collecting massive manufacturing data generated in factories in real time, and plans to support the introduction of smart factories by small and medium-sized enterprises through this.
We will also be introducing 'Link 5G', which is being developed with Telstar Homemel. Link 5G is a device that receives 5G wireless signals and connects the protocol of industrial equipment so that communication equipment within the factory can also communicate with 5G. It is expected to be helpful to companies that have difficulty applying smart factories to the entire process because existing equipment has different industrial protocol standards.
KT 5G Platform Development Team Leader Lee Yong-kyu said, “KT will continue to expand and develop cooperation models with the Innobiz Association so that Korea can secure global competitiveness by building AI-based manufacturing innovation smart factories.”

Universal Robots and POSCO ICT Form Joint Front for Industrial Collaborative Robots to "Preempt the Smart Factory Market"
Universal Robots and POSCO ICT have concluded a joint cooperation agreement to advance smart factory and industrial collaborative robot business. POSCO ICT provides IRaaS, a robot-integrated O&M operation solution, while Universal Robots supplies collaborative robots for IRaaS. The two companies agreed to jointly cooperate on marketing and distribution utilizing Universal Robots' domestic distributor network. Universal Robots will work with distributors to support IRaaS solution marketing and sales, as well as supply and deployment of collaborative robots and applications. POSCO ICT will provide consulting and engineering services for collaborative robot business, and development, supply, and deployment of robot-integrated O&M solutions and IT solutions. Universal Robots' collaborative robots are planned to be gradually expanded and applied across POSCO Group companies in the future.

Young job seekers experience smart factories and find jobs!
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is recruiting companies and young job seekers to participate in the Smart Factory Construction Enterprise Youth Experience Program, which allows young job seekers to gain hands-on work experience at smart factory construction companies with relatively favorable working conditions. The program matches young job seekers with smart factory construction companies, conducts job-specific training for up to two days, and then provides up to three months of on-site work experience at the company. Participating companies receive a monthly training allowance of 600,000 won per participant, with support for up to three participants per company.
