Dell Launches High-End Storage with Intel Optane SSDs
Published2019.09.25 17:07Dell Technologies announced on the 25th that it has launched a new 'PowerMax' high-end storage.
The new Dell EMC PowerMax is the first to feature Storage Class Memory (SCM) technology for persistent storage, featuring dual-port Intel Optane SSDs.
One notable feature of the PowerMax, which consists of a PowerMax 32Gb Fibre Channel (FC) input/output module, a 32Gb Connectrix switch, a 32GB NVMe host adapter, and various directors, is the Dell EMC PowerPath software.
PowerPath software is a multipath software that manages data input/output paths, and has excellent resilience and migration capabilities. It is also the first enterprise-grade SAN multipath software to support NVMe-oF (NVMe over Fabrics).
PowerMax, featuring scale-out scalability and an end-to-end NVMe architecture, boasts SCM and delivers up to 15 million IOPS, up to 350 GB/s of bandwidth, 50% faster response time than the previous generation, and a read response time of 100 μs. This enables real-time analysis of 40 million data sets and an average of 6 billion decisions per day.
The machine learning engine built into the storage can also automatically place data by media type based on IO profiles, leveraging predictive analytics and pattern recognition technologies.
PowerMax supports the VMware vRealize Orchestrator plug-in, pre-built Ansible modules, and integrates with Kubernetes to easily automate infrastructure operations and DevOps workflows.
“The new Dell EMC PowerMax storage, created in collaboration with Intel, will enable businesses to enhance the performance of their IT infrastructure,” said Kim Kyung-jin, president and CEO of Dell Technologies.

Baidu Designs In-Memory Database Based on 'Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory'
As data processing demands surge exponentially, internet service providers such as Baidu must realize fast and efficient data access and storage. Intel and Baidu designed an in-memory database for Baidu's feed stream service to leverage the high-capacity, high-performance capabilities of Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory. By building a memory platform equipped with 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors and based on Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory, Baidu was able to lower TCO while delivering personalized search results to users. Additionally, Intel and Baidu unveiled a storage solution that accelerates machine learning performance in HPC workloads.

SalePoint Signs Multi-Year Partnership Agreement with AWS… Promoting Identity Security that Integrates Even AI Agents

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
