"Automating Construction Sites with 5G": KT Signs MOU with Hyundai E&C
Published2019.10.08 07:01KT announced on the 1st that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai E&C at the Hyundai E&C building in Gye-dong, Seoul, for the "development and commercialization of 5G-based smart construction automation technology" and agreed to cooperate on the development of 5G construction automation technology.
Through the signing of this MOU, the two companies agreed to proceed with the development of 5G-based technologies to improve productivity and quality in the construction sector, the development of 5G smart construction technologies (such as autonomous construction robots), and the development of 5G construction site monitoring technologies, as well as the exchange of information.
In addition, we plan to continue 5G collaboration by forming a working group to rapidly commercialize the developed technologies and achieve 'Digital Transformation of construction sites'.
KT’s enterprise-dedicated 5G technology can rapidly transmit large volumes of on-site 3D scanning data in real time. It enables the dispatch and real-time control of autonomous robots to sites that are difficult for humans to access, and allows for immediate monitoring of abnormal situations by analyzing high-definition camera footage in real time.
Hyundai E&C plans to introduce enterprise-dedicated 5G from KT and demonstrate 5G construction solutions on a trial basis at two construction sites in Korea. Even after the completion of the demonstration pilot project, both companies plan to cooperate to distribute 5G-based construction site management technology.
Lee Seok-hong, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai E&C’s R&D Center, said, “Hyundai E&C is focusing its capabilities on the development and field application of smart construction technologies,” adding, “We expect that the commercialization of 5G-based technology cooperation with KT will lead to improved productivity at all construction sites.”
"Through this MOU, KT and Hyundai E&C are launching innovations at construction sites based on 5G," said Seo Chang-seok, Executive Vice President and Head of KT's Network Strategy Division. "Going forward, both companies will continue to cooperate on construction site automation to improve site efficiency and strengthen industrial safety."

KT는 올해 5월, 네트워크부문에 인프라운용혁신실을 신설하고, 통신 인프라 시설에 대한 대대적인 점검 및 개선활동을 펼쳤다. 7월에는 차세대 통신 인프라 혁신기술 개발을 위해 융합기술원 산하에 KT OSP 이노베이션센터를 구축했다. 또 5G와 AI에 기반을 둔 로봇을 활용해 OSP를 보다 안전하고 안정적으로 관리한다는 방침이다.

A remote control system exclusively for electric buses will be implemented starting this year.
Hyundai Motor and KT announced the development of a dedicated remote management system (FMS) for electric buses and its application starting this year. The new remote management system provides various functions including electric vehicle-specific management for electric buses, location management, and digital tachograph management. The two companies plan to conduct pilot installation of the remote management system on all electric buses to be introduced in Seoul this year, including the 14 electric buses currently operating in Seoul, and plan to expand its operation nationwide by standardizing the system.

MOU Signed to Secure Electrical Safety in National Key Telecommunications Facilities
한국전기안전공사, 한국전파진흥협회, KT, LG유플러스가 국가 기간통신시설 전기안전 확보를 위한 업무협약을 체결했다. 이번 협약은 5G 시대를 맞아 통신재난 예방을 위한 국가 기간통신시설 전기 설비에 대한 안정성을 확보하기 위해 진행됐다. 4사는 국가 기간통신시설의 전기재해 예방을 위한 협력관계를 강화하고 국가 기간통신시설의 전기 안전 확보를 위한 활동을 다각화할 예정이다.
