Western Digital Launches Two Industry-Highest Speed 1TB UHS-I MicroSD Cards in Korea
Published2019.10.01 16:23Western Digital is launching two 1TB speed UHS-I microSD flash memory cards in Korea: the '1TB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I MicroSDXC Card' and the '1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I MicroSDXC Card'.
The newly introduced 1TB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSDXC card and 1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I microSDXC card can store and transfer vast amounts of high-quality photos and videos taken with smartphones, drones, action cams, etc., thanks to their fast speed and high capacity.
This allows consumers to create high-quality content without worrying about capacity limits or long transmission times.
In particular, based on Western Digital’s patented flash technology, it offers fast speeds of up to 160MB/s and 170MB/s respectively, allowing files to be transferred at nearly half the speed of conventional UHS-I microSD cards.
In addition, it features the A2 specification, a next-generation application performance class for fast application execution and loading. The two new SanDisk microSD cards are available in 512GB capacity along with 1TB.
Meanwhile, Western Digital unveiled the SanDisk Extreme Pro CFExpress Card Type B, featuring next-generation NVMe technology, at 'IFA 2019' held in Berlin, Germany last September.
This card is a product for photographers and videographers who require the latest technology to create high-definition content. It supports continuous RAW 6K video recording at speeds more than three times faster than the company's existing card format and improves workflow efficiency.
Along with this, Western Digital also announced the '1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I Memory Card,' an ultra-high capacity SD card optimized for 4K UHD video and burst mode shooting.
This product offers the fastest transfer speed of up to 170MB/s among 1TB UHS-I SD cards. The SanDisk Extreme Pro CFExpress Card Type B is scheduled for domestic release in late November, and the 1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I memory card in mid-October.

WD Launches WD Blue NVMe SSD Targeting Mainstream PC Users
Western Digital has added a new product, 'WD Blue SN500 NVMe SSD', to its WD Blue SSD portfolio. The newly introduced SN500 maintains the reliability characteristic of the WD Blue product line while delivering approximately three times higher performance compared to SATA products in the same lineup. Optimized for multitasking and resource-intensive applications, the product supports instant access to files and programs for content creators and PC enthusiasts. Based on Western Digital's proprietary 3D NAND technology, firmware, and controller, the 500GB model achieves maximum sequential read speeds of 1,700MB/s and sequential write speeds of 1,450MB/s, with low power consumption of approximately 2.7W.

WD Announces 18- and 20-TB HDDs for Data Centers
Western Digital has unveiled new enterprise-class HDDs—the 18TB Ultrastar DC HC550 CMR HDD and 20TB Ultrastar DC HC650 SMR HDD—to meet data center customers' requirements for TCO improvement. The two new HDDs are based on a nine-disk platform with energy-assisted recording technology, delivering high capacity on the basis of high areal density. WD plans to ship samples of the 18TB Ultrastar DC HC550 CMR HDD and 20TB Ultrastar DC HC650 SMR HDD by the end of the year and will begin mass production in the first half of 2020. Additionally, it is expected that more than half of WD's HDD shipments will be based on SMR technology by 2023.
