ST Showcases Smart Factory Total Solution at 2019 KES
Published2019.10.11 09:30STMicroelectronics participated in the 2019 Semiconductor Expo (SEDEX 2019) and presented the latest products and solutions targeting industrial applications in the fields of 'Motor Control', 'Power & Energy', and 'Automation'.
The Smart Industry Demo is expected to draw the most attention at this exhibition. Based on diverse features including AI (Artificial Intelligence)-based image recognition, vibration sensing, cloud connectivity, and voice control, it demonstrates how people, robots, and factory facilities interwork with one another. For this purpose, ST products including STM32 microcontrollers, motion sensors, distance measurement (ToF) sensors, MEMS microphones, and BLE (Bluetooth® Low Energy) ICs, along with BlueCoin sensor development boards, STM32 development boards, X-Nucleo functional expansion boards, and industrial multi-sensor development kits, have been extensively applied. In particular, this demo was developed by applying STM32Cube AI, an AI development tool for edge processing.
In the 'Automation' sector, the main focus is on food image and handwriting recognition demos implemented with embedded AI using two powerful STM32 products launched earlier this year—the Arm Cortex-M based STM32H7 MCU and the multi-core microprocessor STM32MP1—alongside advanced GUI development solution TouchGFX, industrial IO-Link communication connecting various sensors, BLE, Sigfox, CAN/LIN, and demos based on ToF sensors for distance measurement.
In the 'Power & Energy' sector, ST's second-generation silicon-carbide (SiC) 1200V industrial MOSFET and diode, which implement excellent low-power consumption with low switching and power loss even at high temperatures, lead the display, followed by USB Power Delivery, Inrush Current Limiter (ICL), 3.6kw totem-pole PFC with ICL, ESD protection, and diverse packages for power semiconductors including ACEPACK.
In the 'Motor Control' sector, attention is expected to be drawn to the STSPIN32F0-based demo where two small motors synchronized with excellent precision perform accurate position control, collision avoidance, and disk rotation at different speeds and accelerations, along with motor control development kits.
Additionally, various STM32 Nucleo MCU development boards and X-Nucleo functional expansion boards are displayed together, allowing visitors to verify solutions for fast and easy embedded product development.

STMicroelectronics has announced that it is strengthening its strategy to capture the industrial embedded processor market based on the STM32. ST's STM32 MCU product family consists of more than 1,000 32-bit MCUs based on Arm Cortex-M cores. Since its initial launch in 2008, cumulative shipments have exceeded 4 billion units to date. In May of this year, ST announced at a global investor relations event that the industrial market is a key target. ST provides digital power and motor control kits suitable for racing drones and small devices
ST has added new firmware to the STM32CubeG4 software package optimized for remote-controlled vehicles, small electric vehicles, and drones powered by up to 6S LiPo battery packs, with support provided through the X-CUBE-MCSDK v5.4.1 motor control SDK. Additionally, ST has expanded support for the STM32G4 MCU by providing digital power and motor control discovery kits.

4 Types of 'Click Boards' Equipped with 'STSPIN' Motor Driver Launched
ST Microelectronics has collaborated with partner Mikroelektronika to develop four Click Board solutions. The four Click Boards enable the application of STSPIN motor drivers not only to STM32-based designs but also to systems equipped with Mikroelektronika's prototype boards and MikroBus sockets. The STSPIN IC integrates advanced control functions and safety features such as output stage protection and non-dissipative overcurrent protection in an ultra-compact footprint, thereby simplifying motor control.

Ecolab and K-water Discuss Innovation Collaboration in Advanced Industry Water Management
Ecolab and the Korea Water Resources Corporation jointly discussed cooperation directions for maximizing water use efficiency in advanced industries such as semiconductors and data centers and establishing sustainable water circulation.
