340,000-pyeong Seosan Proving Ground, capable of autonomous driving research
Navigation OTA Update, C-V2X Technology Demonstration


KT announced on the 22nd that it held a '5G Connected Car Technology Exchange Demonstration' on the 21st at the Hyundai Mobis Proving Ground in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, together with Hyundai Mobis and Hyundai MNSOFT.

Hyundai Mobis' Seosan Proving Ground covers a total area of approximately 340,000 pyeong and includes an advanced proving ground capable of autonomous driving research and development. Last December, KT established a 5G network there and is jointly developing connected car technology with Hyundai Mobis.

This event was held to commemorate the completion of the first phase of collaboration between KT and Hyundai Mobis, to demonstrate developed technologies, and to share the results of the partnership. The first phase of completed development projects includes real-time navigation update technology and C-V2X technology.

At the exchange meeting, 5G connected car technology based on the first project was demonstrated. ▲ Autonomous vehicle stopping upon receiving information on pedestrian jaywalking (V2P) ▲ Lane change when a preceding vehicle makes a sudden stop (V2V) ▲ Real-time map update through road sign recognition ▲ Transmission of sensor data within the autonomous vehicle (V2I) ▲ 5G video streaming service in emergency situations, etc.

With the success of the first project, the two companies have implemented autonomous driving technologies up to the end-to-end service level, including terminals, networks, and application servers.

"We will further strengthen cooperation between the two companies to enhance the reliability of connected car technology and realize an era of future cars free from accident risks," said Jang Jae-ho, Head of the EE Research Institute at Hyundai Mobis.

KT’s Head of Corporate Customer Division, Jeong Yun-sik, stated, “We will lead the upcoming era of future vehicles by expanding areas of collaboration, such as providing content within autonomous vehicles, to the entire connected car ecosystem.”
