Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong Discusses Future Direction with Professors Yoshua Bengio and Sebastian Seung


Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong of Samsung Electronics discussed the direction of future AI industry development and Samsung Electronics' AI strategy with world-renowned scholars on the 6th.

The vice chairman met with Yoshua Bengio, professor at the University of Montreal who is leading AI research in deep learning, and Sebastian Seung (Korean name: Seung Hyun-jun), professor at Princeton University, a world-renowned scholar who pioneered neuromorphic AI research based on brain neural engineering that mimics brain activity, to prepare for the future.

Professor Yoshua Bengio is counted among the world's four great gurus in the AI field along with Geoffrey Hinton, professor at the University of Toronto, Yann Lecun, professor at New York University, and Andrew Ng, professor at Stanford University.

Professor Bengio is an authority in recurrent neural network design and learning algorithm development for next-generation speech recognition performance innovation and won the Turing Award, known as the Nobel Prize in computer science, in 2018.

Professor Sebastian Seung has been serving as Chief-Research-Scientist (CRS) at Samsung Research since 2018 and is providing consulting on Samsung's AI strategy establishment and advanced research.

Samsung Electronics established the Montreal AI Lab in 2017 and is jointly developing AI algorithms in image and speech recognition, autonomous driving, and others with Professor Bengio. Professor Bengio attended Samsung AI Forum 2019 held from the 4th to the 5th and introduced core technologies in the deep learning field such as meta-learning and reinforcement learning.

Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong of Samsung Electronics expressed his ambition, saying "Let us break the limits of our thinking and select the future so that we can realize greater dreams."
