Infineon Launches 40nm Security Chip Solution SLC3x
Based on the 32-bit Arm SecureCore SC300 controller
All devices in the portfolio meet EMVCo standards


Smart card solutions with embedded IC chips are gradually transitioning to contactless, multi-functional technologies. There's also growing demand for advanced biometric authentication to simplify user authentication. However, adding these new features requires the involvement of multiple stakeholders, making implementation more complex and potentially increasing security concerns.

On the 10th, Infineon Technologies launched its 40nm security chip solution 'SLC3x' for various smart card applications.

The SLC3x series is a portfolio of security controllers, all of which meet the latest EMVCo standards. Devices come in a variety of configurations to support a wide range of applications, from low-cost contact-based prepaid and loyalty cards to standard dual-interface payment and ID cards, biometric System-on-Card solutions, and wearable devices.

All SLC3x devices are based on the 32-bit Arm SecurCore SC300 dual-interface secure cryptographic controller. Additionally, it combines Infineon's digital security technology and 3rd generation SOLID FLASH technology.

Contactless applications such as keychains and rings place high demands on processing speed and robust packaging. The SLC3x device enables contactless payment processing times of less than 200 ms, even when the reader field strength is low or a small antenna design is used. Robust, easy-to-integrate contactless or dual-interface packages, such as Coil-on-Module, enable a rapid transition from contact-based to dual-interface solutions.

Available in user-friendly formats, such as compact SPA modules with integrated antennas that meet ISO and EMV standards, designers can develop payment solutions in new form factors within weeks.
