Samsung TV Acquires 8K HDMI 2.1 Video Standard Certification

With Samsung Electronics becoming the first in the industry to obtain certification for the 8K HDMI 2.1 video standard, the emergence of various devices equipped with HDMI 2.1 is expected to revitalize the 8K market.

The newly certified HDMI 2.1 version relates to a new video transmission format that includes not only 4K 120Hz but also 8K 60Hz, so Samsung Electronics has officially received recognition for its technological prowess in equipping its 2019 TVs with HDMI 2.1 functionality.
Through this certification, Samsung Electronics plans to go beyond applying HDMI 2.1 certification to new TVs scheduled for release in 2020 and provide consumers with a more realistic and dynamic experience by expanding the 8K ecosystem.
Lee Ho-gun, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business, said, “As official certification for HDMI 2.1 proceeds in earnest, various devices equipped with HDMI 2.1, such as game consoles and Blu-ray players, are expected to be released, contributing to the expansion of the 8K market,” adding, “As a technology leader in the TV industry, Samsung Electronics will actively respond to future technology standards to provide the best value to consumers.”
Meanwhile, HDMI certification is HIt is conducted through an HDMI certification center officially recognized by the HDMI Association, which is responsible for the DMI standard.
