Simplifying the production of voice recognition service compatible devices
Amazon, Apple, Google, and the Zigbee Alliance announced today a working group to develop and deploy a royalty-free connectivity standard that increases interoperability among smart home products and builds security into its fundamental design principles.
Companies that make up the Zigbee Alliance Board of Directors, including IKEA, Legrand, NXP, Resideo, Samsung SmartThings, Schneider Electric, Signify, Silicon Labs, Somfy, and Wulian, will also join the committee and contribute to the project.
Through the 'Connected Home over IP' project, the commission plans to enable communication between smart home devices, mobile apps, and cloud services based on the Internet Protocol (IP), and define a specific set of IP-based networking technologies for device authentication.
The Joint Committee adopted an open-source approach to the development and implementation of new unified connectivity protocols. The project will leverage market-proven smart home technologies from companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, and the Zigbee Alliance. This is expected to accelerate the standard development process and deliver benefits to manufacturers and consumers more quickly.
The project will simplify the creation of devices compatible with smart home and voice-activated services like Amazon's Alexa, Apple's Siri, and Google's Assistant for device manufacturers. The proposed standards will complement existing technologies, and the joint committee members will encourage device manufacturers to continue to innovate based on existing technologies.

Nordic Launches 'nRF52833' SoC Supporting Multiprotocol
Nordic Semiconductor has announced the nRF52833 multiprotocol SoC, the fifth product in the nRF52 series. The nRF52833 supports Bluetooth LE, Thread, Zigbee, and proprietary 2.4GHz wireless connectivity. It is based on a 64MHz 32-bit Arm Cortex-M4 processor with FPU and has obtained operational certification across a temperature range of -40 to 105°C. With 512KB of flash memory and 128KB of RAM, it supports multiprotocol functionality. It can simultaneously execute Bluetooth LE and mesh/Thread/Zigbee, enabling interaction between smartphones and lighting mesh networks, as well as provisioning and commissioning. It is suitable for a wide range of commercial and industrial wireless applications including professional lighting and asset tracking, smart home products, advanced wearables, and gaming solutions.

TI Launches Audio ADC Capturing Voice from 10m Away
Smart home system developers require far-field voice capture performance to implement voice command functionality. However, until now, it has been challenging to capture voice commands in noisy environments due to limited microphone sensor numbers and signal processing capabilities. In response, TI Korea has introduced the TLV320ADC5140, a 4-channel audio ADC with enhanced far-field voice capture performance, to the Korean market. As part of TI's Burr-Brown audio ADC product line, the TLV320ADC5140 enhances far-field voice capture capability for applications such as high-end speakers, soundbars, wireless speakers, high-definition TVs, IP cameras, video conferencing systems, and smart appliances up to a radius of 10 meters.
