On the 13th, the Internet Newspaper Committee (Chairman Bang Jae-hong, hereinafter the Committee) announced the plan for the "Internet Newspaper Journalism Education 2020" targeting signatories of the self-regulatory review pledge.

Throughout this year, the Journalism Ethics Committee plans to conduct customized on-site training for signatories, basic training for new reporters, special lectures on journalism, training on using Google tools for writing high-quality articles, and training for local journalists.
Customized outreach training for pledgers

The Committee plans to establish a new "Customized Outreach Education for Pledgers" this year to provide training on topics required by relevant organizations or media outlets. It intends to recommend instructors for topics needed by organizations or media and facilitate connections so that instructors visit the relevant organizations or media to conduct lectures. However, on-site training can be applied for if there are at least 10 training participants.

Basic training for new reporters

The <Basic Training for New Reporters>, conducted with the support of the Korea Press Foundation, is scheduled to be held once in the first half and once in the second half of the year for new reporters with less than one year of experience. It will run for 2 to 3 days and covers essential lecture topics for online newspaper reporters, such as information search and data journalism, information disclosure for reporting, and writing straight news articles.

Special Lecture on Journalism

The <Journalism Special Lectures> are scheduled to be held continuously throughout the year, covering topics relevant to the field for online newspaper reporters, such as writing proper article sentences, creating infographics, and filming news using mobile devices. To enhance the ethical awareness of participating media outlets and the effectiveness of self-regulation, online newspaper ethics training will also be conducted at every session.

Training on using Google tools for writing good articles

The "Utilizing Google Tools for Writing Good Articles" training, conducted jointly with the Google News Initiative (GNI), consists of learning the basics of various free tools provided by Google and practicing their application in writing actual articles. We plan to hold the program three times this year.

Local Journalist Training

We are conducting the <Local Journalist Training> jointly with the Press Arbitration Commission for local media journalists who find it difficult to participate in training. It is held in four regions including Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, and Busan, and consists of legal and ethical education to prevent media disputes, as well as journalism education necessary for local journalists.
