Entry into New Zealand for the first time, 5G network to be built within the year
Will leverage experience in building large-scale 5G networks


On the 5th, Samsung Electronics signed a 5G mobile telecommunications equipment supply contract with Spark, New Zealand's largest mobile telecommunications operator.

This is the first time Samsung Electronics is supplying mobile telecommunications equipment to New Zealand, and plans to build a commercial 5G network in some areas within the year in cooperation with Spark.

Samsung Electronics supplies communication equipment, such as 3.5GHz frequency band 5G base stations (Massive MIMO), which have been commercialized in Korea.

Since 2019, Spark has been conducting demonstration tests on the speed, quality, and ultra-low latency performance of Samsung Electronics' equipment by verifying the performance of Samsung Electronics' end-to-end solutions, including communication equipment, terminals, and core chips.

Meanwhile, according to Dell'Oro, Samsung Electronics' market share in the 5G telecommunications equipment market in the third quarter of last year was recorded at 15%. This follows Huawei (31.2%), Ericsson (25.2%), and Nokia (18.9%).

Currently, 5G operates in Non-Standalone (NSA) mode alongside LTE, giving companies that hold a dominant position in the existing LTE equipment market an advantage. However, this landscape could change once Standalone (SA) mode, which uses only 5G, enters full-scale service.
