A way is opening for the public's ideas to be reflected in the planning process for items to be intensively fostered by small and medium-sized enterprises.

On the 18th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups introduced new systems for the 'Public Technology Demand Survey,' 'Jamming,' and 'Business Feasibility Evaluation Team' to identify items for intensive development through public participation.

In the meantime, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups established the 'Strategic Technology Roadmap for SMEs' through the Korea Technology Information Promotion Agency for SMEs and fostered promising technologies for SMEs requiring strategic development, as well as commercialization technology development items suitable for SMEs.

As a result of primarily reflecting the findings of the R&D demand survey of developing companies during the planning process for items to be intensively fostered by SMEs, there were achievements in nurturing SMEs.

However, in response to feedback that the public found it difficult to tangible effects of government R&D support in their daily lives, the planning process for items designated for intensive development under the technology roadmap will be improved from a demand-driven approach to a 'public-participatory derivation method.'

First, the online technology demand surveyIt will be conducted from March 18 to April 30 through the Technology Roadmap website.

Next, we are introducing 'Jamming,' a method IBM has utilized for future technology forecasting and establishing technology roadmaps. Jamming is a method in which the general public freely discusses problems related to promising technologies through online brainstorming to find solutions.

Finally, promising technologies proposed by the public are evaluated for their practicality and marketability through the 'Intensive Development Item Business Feasibility Evaluation Team,' which consists of about 100 people including the R&D Public Evaluation Team and VCs (investment analysts).

Projects with excellent business potential will be recommended as candidates for R&D support for small and medium-sized enterprises in 2021, and will be finally selected as intensively fostered items by an expert committee composed of experts in various technology fields.

In addition, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to support the items and strategic technologies designated for intensive development in the fields of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and materials, parts, and equipment, which were identified through the SME Strategic Technology Roadmap, by designating specific items when soliciting R&D projects in 2021.
