AI Security Agent Identifyes Hidden Storage Media Within 0.3 Seconds
Currently in use by LG affiliates, scheduled to be applied at Incheon Airport


LG CNS announced on the 12th that it has developed an AI X-ray image analysis technology, tentatively named "AI Security Guard," which combines AI with X-ray equipment to fundamentally block information leakage from companies and institutions.

AI security personnel is a technology that uses AI to analyze photos of bags, coats, and other items captured by X-ray equipment installed at various building entrances, thereby detecting storage media or electronic devices that may leak information.

The LG CNS AI security agent identifies all storage media inside bags and coats in just 0.3 seconds. When the AI detects a hidden storage device, it displays the name of the media along with the probability based on the detection result on the monitor, such as 'USB 99.0%' or 'Memory Card 85.5%'. It also stops the X-ray scanner belt.

Previously, security personnel stationed at entrances visually inspected X-ray images, which was inefficient in terms of interpretation time and accuracy. When new security personnel were deployed, a new training process for interpreting X-ray images was also required.

LG CNS trained the AI on over 50,000 images from various storage media for X-ray photo recognition. An official stated that the learning results enable reading of eight types of storage media, including USBs, hard disks, memory cards, laptops, tablet PCs, smartphones, cameras, and e-books, with a reading accuracy of 99%.

AI immediately distinguishes storage media that are difficult to identify with the human eye, such as notebooks inside bags, items hidden in pouches, or items mixed with earphone cords, thereby reducing the workload of security personnel.

The AI security agent can learn images of storage media passing through X-rays even while in operation. In the future, there are plans to increase reading accuracy to nearly 100% and expand the types of storage media that can be read.

LG CNS is deploying AI security personnel to research centers and factories. AI security personnel are currently being utilized at LG Display's Magok Science Park research center and Paju factory, as well as LG Chem's Seoul headquarters and Ochang factory. In the first half of 2021, LG CNS's AI X-ray image analysis technology is also scheduled to be applied to immigration gates at Incheon Airport.
