Korea's digital healthcare industry is taking off in earnest.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 24th that it had received approval (Software as a Medical Device; SaMD) for its electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement app from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) on the 21st.

With this approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, users can measure and manage not only blood pressure but also electrocardiograms through the 'Samsung Health Monitor' app, which received approval for a blood pressure measurement app last April.

The ECG measurement app uses the sensor technology of the Galaxy Watch Active2 to analyze the electrical activity of the heart, measuring and analyzing sinus rhythm and atrial fibrillation, and displaying them.

Users can measure their electrocardiogram by opening the app in a comfortable state, placing the arm and hand wearing the smartwatch on a flat surface, and then placing the fingertip of the opposite hand on the top button of the smartwatch for about 30 seconds.

Atrial fibrillation, in which the atria quiver very rapidly and finely in a disorderly manner, forming an irregular pulse, is one of the common arrhythmia diseases, but many patients Asymptomatic people are unaware of their condition, which significantly increases the risk of complications including blood clots, heart failure, and stroke.

A Samsung Electronics official said, “We plan to launch the ECG measurement feature within the third quarter of this year through the Samsung Health Monitor app,” and “We plan to make it available on the Galaxy Watch Active2, which has a built-in sensor, and smartwatches that support ECG measurement in the future.”
