Combining fingerprint biometric expertise


The security and convenience of contactless payment cards are expected to further improve.

STMicroelectronics announced on the 13th that it is collaborating with Swedish biometrics specialist Fingerprint Card to develop a Biometric System-on-Card (BSoC) solution based on fingerprint recognition technology.

Through this collaboration, the two companies plan to provide the financial market with a secure, battery-free, turnkey BSoC solution that integrates secure payment technology based on ST's ST31/STPay chipset and the T-shaped sensor module of the fingerprint card with the STM32 general-purpose MCU.

STPay secure payment products run on the GlobalPlatform Java Card OS and have built-in integrated security features to support various national payment systems. Additionally, it has obtained EMVCo and CC EAL 6+ hardware certifications and software certifications up to the OS and application levels.

Contactless payment cards are the first target of this collaboration, and the two companies plan to develop BSoC solutions for other fields, such as ID cards, access cards, and transportation cards, in the future.
