ICT exports to the U.S. show an upward trend, rising 26.0%


It was found that ICT exports increased compared to the same month last year for the first time in three months.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that South Korea’s ICT exports in June recorded $14.96 billion and imports $8.96 billion, with the trade balance provisionally tallied at a surplus of $5.99 billion.

Exports increased by 1% compared to the same month last year, marking a return to growth for the first time in three months since last April. However, the daily average export value decreased by 7.6% compared to the same month last year.

By major product category, computers and peripherals ($1.27 billion, 84.5%↑) increased, while semiconductors ($8.36 billion, 0.5%↓), displays ($1.5 billion, 5.2%↓), and mobile phones ($880 million, 10.6%↓) decreased. The percentage changes in parentheses are all compared to the same month of the previous year.

Exports of computers and peripherals increased for the ninth consecutive month, driven by the continued strong export trend centered on SSDs ($970 million, up 152.2%).

Semiconductor exports decreased slightly as demand for memory and other sectors declined despite increased demand for system semiconductors. Display exports decreased as the downward trend in LCD exports continued, despite an increase in demand for OLED panels.

Sales of finished smartphones were sluggish due to declining global demand. Conversely, sales of components shifted to an upward trend driven by increased demand following the recovery of the smartphone market in the second half of the year.

By major region, Vietnam (5.7%↑) and the U.S. (26.0%↑) increased, while China (including Hong Kong) (1.6%↓), the EU (2.7%↓), and Japan (3.2%↓) decreased.

Imports increased by 4.8% compared to the same month last year. Computers and peripherals ($1.09 billion, 44.4%↑) and displays ($350 million, 17.3%↑) increased, while semiconductors ($3.82 billion, 2.4%↓) and mobile phones ($610 million, 5.8%↓) decreased.

By major region, it increased in Taiwan ($1.01 billion, 15.4%↑) and Vietnam ($740 million, 5.7%↑), while it decreased in China (including Hong Kong) ($3.03 billion, 20.6%↓), Japan ($760 million, 1.5%↓), the United States ($670 million, 2.0%↓), and the EU ($540 million, 2.3%↓).
