LG Electronics Inverter and LIG Nex1 Unmanned Technology Combined
Developing a motor for drones with integrated motor drives


LG Electronics and LIG Nex1 are jointly developing a military drone motor.

On the 17th, LG Electronics signed a business agreement in the drone sector at LIG Nex1 Pangyo House in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, with LG Electronics Components Solutions Division Director Wang Cheol-min and LIG Nex1 Business Division Director Lee Geon-hyeok in attendance.

Under this agreement, the two companies plan to fully utilize each other's capabilities and resources over the next three years, and expect this to create synergy in the military drone business.

The drone market is currently experiencing rapid growth for personal drones, while commercial drones are being used in a variety of fields, including agriculture, construction, and military applications for reconnaissance and surveillance. However, most of the motors used in drones are supplied by Chinese companies.

Through this agreement, LG Electronics plans to expand the base of domestically produced drone motors by leveraging its inverter motor technology accumulated over 20 years.

To increase the drone's flight time, LG Electronics aimed to improve the performance and weight of the motor. Additionally, drone motors require a separate motor drive controller, and in the future, an integrated product that combines these into a single module and reduces weight is also planned to be introduced.

Meanwhile, LIG Nex1, founded in 1976 as Geumseong Precision Industry, has been developing precision-guided weapons and unmanned robots for over 40 years. Leveraging its accumulated expertise in unmanned aerial vehicle systems, LIG Nex1 plans to develop military drone systems, including the Army's upcoming drone robot combat system.
