Key Data-AI-Cloud aspects of the Digital New Deal
Briefing Session on 7 Supplementary Budget Projects for 2020 Held Online
Applications accepted until the end of July, and full-scale commencement following evaluation in August.


The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 20th that it will hold an online briefing session on the 7 supplementary budget projects for 2020 in the data, AI, and cloud sectors, which are the central pillars of the Digital New Deal among the Korean New Deal plans announced on the 14th.
The related projects are currently being advertised from July 10 to July 31, and are scheduled to begin in earnest after a selection evaluation in August.


Data, a more important resource than oil in the future
The projects in the data sector consist of three initiatives (381.4 billion won), including big data platforms, AI training data construction, and AI data processing vouchers, and an integrated business briefing session is scheduled to be held via online channels starting July 20.

① The Big Data Platform and Center Construction Project plans to establish an additional 5 platforms and 50 centers, in addition to the 10 fields selected through open call in 2019. Furthermore, to support the construction and operation of platforms that facilitate the entire process of data production, collection, analysis, and distribution, the project plans to provide approximately 38.5 billion won this year and approximately 73.5 billion won over three years. For institutions and companies selected in this year's open call project, continued support for the second and third years will be determined based on the annual evaluation.

② The AI training data construction project plans to support the construction of a total of 150 types of data sets (1.95 billion KRW per project), and institutions and companies wishing to participate should apply by forming a consortium. Data constructed through this project will be opened and shared through the AI Hub .

③ The AI data processing voucher support project is a program that provides AI data processing services necessary for AI development to small and medium-sized enterprises, small business owners, and prospective entrepreneurs through cooperation between the Ministry of Science and ICT and 13 ministries (16 specialized agencies). Through this open call, a total of 587 projects (70 million won per project) are planned to be supported.


AI, a foundational industry of the Fourth Industrial Revolution era
In the AI sector, applications for AI vouchers (56 billion won) and AI convergence projects (AI+X) (21.1 billion won) are currently being accepted, and business briefing sessions are being held through online channels starting July 15.

④ The AI Voucher Support Program is designed to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and venture companies in adopting AI into their products or services. It provides support of up to 300 million won to 200 companies, and detailed program information will be available online (AI Hub, KakaoTV, YouTube) starting July 20. Inquiries can also be made through the dedicated AI Voucher Call Center (1544-3816).

⑤ The AI Convergence Project is a project that supports the development and utilization of AI based on large-scale data in fields such as medical, national defense, and regionally specialized industries, which have high economic and social ripple effects and are felt by the public. Support ranging from 750 million won to a maximum of 1.93 billion won per consortium will be provided, and starting July 10, regular announcements will be made through online channels (KakaoTV, YouTube), and Q&A will be supported both online and offline.


Cloud, a core infrastructure for the post-COVID era
In the cloud sector, a total of two projects are currently open for applications, including a flagship project (25 billion won) and cloud usage vouchers (8 billion won), and business briefings are available at any time through online channels (KakaoTV, YouTube).

⑥ The Cloud Flagship Project selects one cloud infrastructure company and ten service companies for each of the five sectors of manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, education, and non-face-to-face welfare to form a consortium, and supports the advancement and expansion of cloud services in the respective sectors.

⑦ The cloud usage voucher program supports 400 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with up to 18 million won per company for cloud adoption consulting, transition costs, and usage fees, enabling them to utilize cloud services for digital transformation.
