Applying AE solutions to analyze defects through sound
Joint entry into domestic and international markets based on MOU experience


On the 28th, SK Telecom signed a business agreement with SK Planet and Hwasin for cooperation in AI-based smart factory business.

Through this agreement, the three companies plan to introduce an AE (Acoustic Emission) solution that analyzes defects through sound to the Hwasin Unha and Bongdong factories in the second half of this year.

Traditional defect inspection methods required workers to visually inspect all finished products. This varied depending on the worker's skill level, making it difficult to maintain consistent quality. Even when defects did occur, identifying the cause proved difficult, requiring adjustments to the production process based on experience.

AE solutions enable thorough inspection of all finished products produced worldwide in a fraction of the time previously required, increasing production efficiency and ensuring consistent, high-quality finished products. Furthermore, they reduce the time required to identify the cause of defects and correct production processes.

SK Telecom stated, "With the implementation of this smart factory solution, Hwasin's production costs are expected to be reduced by hundreds of billions of won annually." Hwasin is a first-tier supplier to Hyundai Motor Company and the largest automotive chassis manufacturer in Korea. As of 2019, sales reached KRW 1.1643 trillion and the company operates six global production bases.

The three companies plan to introduce AE solutions to all of Hwasin's production lines within five years, and based on this experience, they plan to actively pursue the commercialization of smart factories both domestically and internationally.

SK Telecom will oversee the AI-based smart factory business utilizing AE solutions, while SK Planet will be in charge of technology development and Hwashin will be in charge of marketing to expand the service.
