Infineon Smart Access Control Solution
Identification of people using radar sensors, guarantee of anonymity


With the spread of COVID-19, there is a need for solutions that help people maintain social distancing within buildings. The demand for such solutions is estimated to reach 90 million worldwide.

Infineon Technologies announced on the 4th that it has developed a solution that counts the number of people entering and exiting a building or room to ensure compliance with social distancing guidelines.

Infineon's smart entry/exit counting solution integrates a single 60GHz radar sensor and software into a small discrete radar board (20mm × 15mm) to accurately and anonymously count the number of people.

Andreas Urschitz, President of Infineon’s Power and Sensor Systems business unit, stated, “The smart access counting solution is a closed system that uses radar technology,” adding, “It only counts the number of people and cannot identify who is who, thus protecting personal information 100%.”

The smart access counting solution, which utilizes Infineon’s XENSIV 60GHz radar sensor, operates contactlessly and can be easily installed in any type of building, including public facilities, retail stores and grocery stores, restaurants, schools, and offices.

The smart access count solution with integrated software (KIT BGT60TR13C EMBEDD) has now begun supply. The second-generation solution is scheduled to be released in September 2020.
