U+, Clark, Mushaini, and KN Partner on 5G Forklifts

Remote autonomous driving is expected to make forklift field work possible.

On the 9th, LG Uplus signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Clark Material Handling Asia, a forklift manufacturer, Mushaini, an AI-based logistics solution provider, and KN, an indoor positioning solution provider, regarding the 'promotion of a joint business for 5G-based unmanned forklifts.'

5G unmanned forklifts are a solution that helps remotely operate unmanned forklifts used across industrial sectors, including manufacturing plants, logistics centers, and ports.

The 5G unmanned forklifts being unveiled by the four companies not only provide 10mm positioning accuracy, but also allow a single operator to control up to 50 forklifts simultaneously. 5G enables real-time forklift information acquisition and seamless transmission of operational commands, ensuring a level of precision equivalent to a worker sitting in a real driver's seat.

Multiple forklifts can autonomously transport goods, and a small number of people can monitor and remotely control them from a control center. In addition to the simple cost reduction aspect, direct operation of heavy equipment can be minimized, thereby minimizing safety accidents that occur during logistics transport.

Under this agreement, the four companies will begin full-scale deployment of 5G unmanned forklifts, starting with a demonstration with integrated logistics company Pantos Logistics (CEO Choi Won-hyeok). They plan to complete the demonstration within the year and proceed with commercialization. They will also continue to strengthen their collaboration, including developing a video solution that enables 24/7 remote monitoring of unmanned forklifts and expanding their lineup of 5G-based equipment.

Meanwhile, LG U+'s 5G dedicated enterprise network, which was unveiled in May, is a closed, secure, and stable enterprise network separate from the general commercial network, enabling the provision of stable communication services in sites where a large number of wireless devices are operated.
