LS Cable & System Completes Preparations for Mass Production of Carbon Fiber LAN Cables


Carbon fiber weighs only a quarter of steel, yet is ten times stronger and seven times more elastic. Using carbon fiber reduces cable weight by 10-20% and increases flexibility and durability by over 30%.

LS Cable & System announced on the 24th that it has commercialized a communication cable using carbon fiber. Previously, copper or aluminum had been used as shielding materials to protect cables.

Currently, LS Cable & System has completed preparations for mass production of LAN cables used for facility operation and system management in smart factories and buildings, and is in the process of applying them to all industrial cables.

In the future, carbon fiber is expected to be actively introduced in mobility fields such as electric vehicles, railways, aviation, and ships, as well as in moving equipment such as industrial robots and elevators.

LS Cable & System CEO Myung-Noh Hyun said, “It is difficult to find a case in the world where carbon fiber has been commercialized in cables,” adding, “We are striving to become a ‘game changer’ in the cable industry through continuous R&D on new materials and eco-friendly products.”
