Preparing for the 5G/MEC Business in the Post-COVID Era


SK Telecom announced on the 11th that it has selected five startups with promising technologies and businesses for the post-COVID-19 era and will seek joint business opportunities with these companies until 2021.
In June, SKT launched a global partner discovery and collaboration program, TEAC (TIP Ecosystem Acceleration Center), to solicit applications from promising companies in North America and Asia to develop non-face-to-face services together. 63 companies from 19 countries participated in the contest.

The companies that were finally selected through a two-month selection process are: Kiswe, a non-face-to-face live concert streaming company; Dabeeo, which has an indoor positioning solution utilizing AI analysis; Seadronix, which has an AI vision analysis-based ship berthing monitoring solution; 39degC, which has a multi-camera live broadcast; and Neubility, a company that provides vision-based route analysis and autonomous driving software solutions for delivery robots in the last mile.

SKT will support field channels and technology development so that selected companies can test technologies and services using its core infrastructure, including 5G, MEC (Mobile Edge Computing), and media.

For example, SKT will support 5G technology for uploading performance data to enhance the live streaming platform for the non-face-to-face K-PoP concert that Kiswe is preparing.

Additionally, by opening up 5G and MEC infrastructure to Seedronics, which has a ship berthing monitoring solution based on AI vision analysis, we plan to support the implementation of a service that provides risk and safety information on large ships berthing at ports.

Davio, which has an indoor positioning solution utilizing AI analysis, is planning to use 5G and MEC infrastructure to provide indoor location-based AR games for museum visitors and docent services by identifying the current locations of exhibition visitors.
