Major global smart home device manufacturers, including Apple, Google, and Amazon, have embarked on developing global standards to facilitate the implementation of smart homes. The Zigbee Alliance's 'Connected Home over IP (CHIP)' working group is creating specifications that enable the free use of smart home devices regardless of brand, with product security serving as a fundamental design principle.
Infineon Technologies announced on the 19th that it is participating in CHIP to contribute to defining security features that are easy for manufacturers and consumers to use.

Steve Hanna of Infineon, who leads multiple security teams in the CHIP Working Group, stated, “I am confident that the CHIP project, as an industry-wide standardization effort, will improve the manufacturing and distribution of smart home devices,” adding, “Infineon will provide methods to connect to the internet easily and securely to protect user privacy and data security.”

As the home transforms into a space for work, education, entertainment, and healthcare due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an increasing demand for new applications and features ranging from smart home security to energy efficiency.

Consumers can use CHIP to easily and securely add new devices to their home networks. To support this, Infineon leads key security teams related to cryptographic fundamentals for encryption, device verification and integrity, and smart home device security certification requirements.
