On the 29th, KT signed an MOU with Mico Biomed for cooperation in infectious disease diagnosis and biohealth business.

At the signing ceremony held on this day, KT’s Future Value TF Executive Vice President Kim Hyung-wook and Digital & Biohealth Division Senior Vice President Byun Hyung-kyun, along with Mico Biomed CEO Kim Sung-woo and System Development Division Head Kim Eun-seop, discussed launching full-scale business cooperation in digital and biohealth as a new future growth engine.

The main background of this collaboration between the two companies was their shared commitment to fostering the biohealth business and cooperating in the Trace (contact tracing) and Test (diagnosis) sectors in the process of supporting the Korean government's 3T (Test, Trace, Treat) infectious disease response strategy in the wake of COVID-19.

Through this agreement, the two companies agreed to cooperate in the following areas: global sales in the in vitro diagnostics field, infectious disease projects with global international organizations, infectious disease diagnostic projects in key overseas countries, biohealth data platform construction projects, and joint promotion of new bio businesses and knowledge sharing.

Since the MERS outbreak in 2015, KT has collaborated with the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency to develop 'GEPP (Global Infectious Disease Response Platform),' a system that tracks the movement of infectious diseases using telecommunications data, contributing to the government's efficient epidemiological investigations and disease control. In addition, the company is accelerating research and business in the field of infectious disease prediction by developing a big data-based platform for predicting the inflow and spread of infectious diseases, as well as an AI-based service for public self-diagnosis and infection risk assessment.

Furthermore, given that a Digital & Biohealth organization was established this month to foster digital biohealthcare, this MOU is interpreted as a significant first step toward expanding into the fields of infectious disease diagnosis and biohealth following the establishment of the organization.
