Maxim Launches High-Density PMIC for Next-Generation Small Devices
Create four outputs with a single inductor to save footprint

As wearability and integration of microelectronic devices increase, designers are challenged to add new features. To increase the functionality and reduce the size of devices, high-power designs must be implemented in a small form factor.

Maxim Integrated Korea announced on the 16th the launch of the MAX77655 Single Inductor Multiple Output Power Management Integrated Circuit (SIMO PMIC), a high-density power management integrated circuit for next-generation ultra-small devices.

Adding more functionality to a smaller form factor requires more compute power, memory, and sensor resources. The MAX77655 SIMO PMIC, measuring 3.95mm2 , reduces PCB space constraints by generating four outputs with a single inductor.

A single inductor can supply up to 700mA of current to four buck-boost channels, supporting higher current loads required for additional compute and sensor resources in next-generation product designs. It provides high regulator efficiency of 90% at 3.7V IN and 1.8V OUT load conditions and extends battery life with quiescent current of only 6.9µA at light load conditions.

Maxim also released the MAX77643 and MAX77642 PMICs for power management platforms requiring less than 500mA of current. Both PMICs feature a 150mA LDO that can be configured as a load switch. They also support a three-output buck-boost regulator with a single inductor and offer 93% efficiency.
