Rohm unveils side-emitting LED for latest VR/MR/AR devices

Cases of virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and augmented reality (AR) technologies being integrated into headsets and head-mounted displays (HMDs) are increasing. Not only in gaming but also in industrial sectors, the adoption rate of products equipped with these technologies is growing, and expansion of the related market is expected.
On the 19th, Rohm announced the development of 'CSL1501RW', an ultra-compact infrared LED of side-emitting type for applications equipped with VR/MR/AR and other functions.
The CSL1501RW infrared LED features a peak wavelength of 860nm, dimensions of 1.0×0.55×0.5mm, and power consumption of 0.18W at a radiant intensity of 1mW/sr. As a side-emitting type, it enables mounting on the side as well, increasing design flexibility for applications.
Sample shipments of the new product began in November of this year at 100 yen per unit, and mass production is scheduled to commence in March of next year with a production capacity of 1 million units per month.

Maxim Integrated Korea has launched the sequential LED controller 'MAX25605'. This enables sequential LED lighting, which was previously available only in high-end vehicles due to complex design and high costs, to be applied affordably to standard and entry-level models.
