Samsung 5G equipment registered as security products on the international CC portal.

Expanding 5G business in North America in partnership with Verizon and others


Samsung Electronics announced on the 22nd that it had obtained international Common Criteria (CC) certification for 5G mobile communication equipment.

CC certification is an international standard for evaluating the security of IT products, ISO 15408, and can be obtained by verifying compliance with common evaluation items among security evaluation standards managed in each country around the world.

Samsung Electronics began a security review of its 5G mobile communication base station with Canadian security evaluation firm Lightship in January of last year, completed it in November, and registered it as a security product on the international CC portal.

In January of this year, the 5G mobile communication base station was listed on the Product Compliant List (PCL) managed by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) under the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), and was also included on the Certified Product (CP) list of the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) under the Canadian Department of National Defence.

In the case of the United States and Canada, they have established their own information security systems in parallel with the international standard CC certification, and are operating additional security verification and certification stages. Samsung Electronics is pursuing Common Criteria (CC) certification to enhance product reliability as its business expands beyond the provision of 5G commercial networks in North America.

In 2020, Samsung Electronics signed a large-scale 5G commercial supply contract with Verizon, the world's largest mobile carrier, and was selected to supply mobile communications equipment for the U.S. Department of Defense's 5G technology validation program. Furthermore, the company is continuing to expand its 5G mobile communications business in North America, entering into LTE/5G commercial operations with Canada's TELUS and Videotron.
