Snowball's onboard platform is now in use by 50 companies.
STMicroelectronics today launched the STPay-Mobile platform, which simplifies the implementation of security-sensitive public transport ticket and payment card virtualization on smartphones and wearable devices. The platform leverages the capabilities of ST's ST54 secure SoC to enable mobile device manufacturers to process contactless transactions and protect critical information such as data and authentication credentials.
Snowball Technology has already implemented the ST platform into its public transportation ticket payment solution based on its 'OnBoard™' platform. The onboard platform provides public transport operators with STPayMobile management services implemented on the ST54 secure SoC, and virtual ticket hosting on smartphones and wearable devices.
“The ST PayMobile service enables public transport operators to introduce a virtual card system into their networks without changing their existing systems and infrastructure,” said Marie-France Li-Saï Florentin, General Manager of ST’s Secure MCU Division and Vice President of ST’s MCU and Digital IC Group.
Currently, the Snowball onboarding platform has been adopted by 50 public transit operators serving 680 million people in 125 cities worldwide, including China. It is also compatible with over 330 different smartphone models and major wearable brands.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
