ABB and AWS to Launch Electric Vehicle Management Solution in the Second Half of the Year
The goal is to create an intelligent platform that is hardware-independent.


ABB and Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced on the 30th that they will jointly develop a cloud-based digital solution for real-time electric vehicle management. The two companies will combine ABB's extensive experience in energy management, charging technology, and e-mobility solutions with AWS's portfolio of cloud technologies and software expertise.

The new platform, scheduled to launch in the second half of this year, will maximize safety while managing electric vehicles more efficiently, from charging points to vehicle data dashboards.

Currently, 23% of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions come from the transportation sector. Electrification of transportation has the potential to significantly reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations. However, the challenge is that many vehicles face similar challenges related to real-time vehicle management and charging status information, electric vehicle maintenance, and access to charging infrastructure.

Currently, most fleet operators and drivers use third-party charging management software, which offers limited functionality and limited customization capabilities for electric vehicle models and charging infrastructure. However, the pace of charging technology development continues to accelerate, increasing the costs and resources required to implement it.

Fleet operators require easy-to-manage charging hardware that enables simple charging and driving, as well as advanced solutions that are scalable, secure, and easily customizable.

ABB will establish an electric vehicle technology venture in Berlin, Germany, and focus on developing customizable, scalable, and cost-effective technologies for fleet operators that can be used by all electric vehicle OEMs. Furthermore, ABB will collaborate with AWS to design an interoperable fleet management solution that can operate across all vehicle types and charging infrastructure.

The fleet management solution leverages machine learning and analytics to optimize routes based on time, weather, and usage patterns, and includes all the necessary functions, including actions and services based on vehicle condition, as well as charging schedule planning and real-time monitoring.
