Samsung Electronics will provide 505 technologies free of charge to small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 7th that it is publicizing the "2021 Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy-Samsung Electronics Technology Sharing."

The Samsung Electronics technology sharing announced this time covers major fields including mobile devices, communication networks, semiconductors, and displays, disclosing a total of 505 technologies. Once technology transfer is confirmed, patent rights and other intellectual property can be transferred free of charge.

Technology sharing is a business that transfers unused technologies held by large enterprises to small and medium-sized enterprises free of charge. Since 2013, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has been supporting technology transfer together with large enterprises and public corporations that seek to practice mutual growth between large and small-medium enterprises annually.

In 2020, with the participation of Samsung Electronics, POSCO Group, and others, technologies were transferred to 226 small and medium-sized enterprises, totaling 444 projects. The SK technology sharing initiative, which was promoted from late last year and completed this March, determined technology transfer to 53 small and medium-sized enterprises, totaling 75 projects.

In particular, the technology sharing involving Samsung, POSCO, SK Group, and others last year is expected to provide significant assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises facing difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and to those seeking to accelerate the development of innovative products and services in line with the Korean New Deal policy.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to continue pursuing technology sharing involving POSCO, LS Electric, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and K-water in the second half of the year so that more small and medium-sized enterprises can benefit.

Kim Sang-mo, Director of Industrial Technology Convergence Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, stated: "While all companies are facing difficult circumstances due to COVID-19, technology sharing by large enterprises will help improve the competitiveness of our small and medium-sized enterprises. We will continue to promote technology sharing for mutual prosperity between large and small-medium enterprises."

Companies wishing to participate in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy-Samsung Electronics technology sharing program can apply by June 10 in accordance with the project announcements posted on the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy website (www.motie.go.kr) and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (www.kiat.or.kr) website.
