The Hydrogen Convergence Alliance (Chairman Jae-do Moon) and the German Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (Chairman Werner Diewald, DWV) have joined hands to revitalize the hydrogen economy and foster the industry in both countries.

The Hydrogen Alliance announced on May 31 that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Germany's DWV on April 21 for the purpose of promoting mutual development in the hydrogen sector and strengthening international cooperation.

The German Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (DWV, Deutscher Wasserstoff- und Brennstoffzellen-Verband), established in 1996, is a private organization representing the German hydrogen industry. It provides industry opinions and support to the government to facilitate the rapid introduction of green hydrogen into the German economy, and carries out international cooperation activities to promote the export of domestic products.

The delegations from both organizations shared the view that a system is needed to efficiently support overall cooperation in the hydrogen industry of both countries in order to achieve carbon neutrality and establish a hydrogen industry ecosystem in Korea and Germany, leading to the signing of this MOU on hydrogen cooperation.

Through the signing of this MoU, the two organizations [will collaborate] on △holding regular conferences and seminars △cooperative exchange and support △international cooperationIt was decided to concentrate capabilities on building networks, identifying and supporting joint hydrogen policies, and establishing strategies for hydrogen introduction.

In particular, they agreed to support joint policy development and technology development through regular exchange of information on policies, technologies, and industry trends between the two countries, and agreed to actively cooperate in establishing the 'Global Hydrogen Industry Alliance' to revitalize the global hydrogen economy.

H2KOREA Chairman Moon Jae-do stated, “At a time when both governments are declaring carbon neutrality and expanding policies for the hydrogen economy, this MOU holds significant meaning.” He added, “By combining the strengths of Korea and Germany and complementing their weaknesses to establish a robust hydrogen industry cooperation framework at the private level, both organizations will solidify the foundation of the hydrogen economy in both countries.”

Werner Diewald, Chairman of Germany's DWV, stated, "The utilization of green hydrogen will play a crucial role in the development of the hydrogen economies of both countries and in the industrial and transportation sectors." He added, "Through the signing of this MOU, we can share the hydrogen expertise of both nations and facilitate technological exchange based on mutual cooperation, which is expected to contribute to the development of both organizations."
