The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS, President Lee Jeong-hwan), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, is setting out to build a platform to discover research achievements aimed at solving national policy issues and social problems and to promote them intensively.

Starting this year, the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) began selecting 'KIMS Highlight Technologies' to identify research achievements among its proprietary technologies that address national policy issues and social problems, with the aim of facilitating their transfer to companies and building public consensus. Applications for this technology are accepted annually based on selected themes through internal recommendations from the relevant research team, and approximately 5 to 10 technologies are finally selected through deliberation by internal and external experts.

The selected technologies are expected to receive support for technology commercialization, such as support for building an IP portfolio, investigation into patent infringement, business model (BM) development, establishment of technology commercialization strategies, technology valuation, and prototype production, as well as support for promotion, such as production of sales material kits (SMK) for technology promotion, media coverage, and performance exhibitions and production of exhibits.

With this year's theme being 'Carbon Neutrality and Electric Vehicles,' the Korea Institute of Materials Science selected a total of 10 technologies—5 in the carbon neutrality sector and 5 in the electric vehicle sector—based on evaluation criteria such as: technologies capable of producing prototypes and evaluating the performance of materials, parts, and systems; technologies with experimental data, prototype test results, and completed certification; technologies holding domestic or overseas patents; and technologies requiring marketing and promotion for national policies and related industries.

The Korea Institute of Materials Science plans to connect the selected technologies to the 'Promising Technologies for Commercialization in the Carbon Neutrality Field' to be held at KINTEX in Ilsan on June 17, and to build a platform that systematizes the promotion and marketing of research results every year.

Once these technology commercialization and promotion platforms are established, it is expected that they will enable the construction of cooperative networks to facilitate technology transactions, as well as support for transactions tailored to the specific characteristics of each industry and technology.

Lee Jung-hwan, President of the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), stated, “This ‘Session on Promising Technologies for Commercialization’ holds great significance in that it establishes a platform to ensure that support for the commercialization and promotion of ‘KIMS Highlight Technologies’ leads to meaningful results for actual companies.” He added, “Starting with this session, KIMS will be reborn as a business-friendly institution that views technology from the perspective of companies.” "I will continue to make efforts to ensure that," he said.
