Samsung Electronics has improved design convenience and space utilization for smartphone manufacturers by launching a new high-performance uMCP product that combines DRAM and NAND flash memory on a single chip.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 15th that it has launched a new LPDDR5 uMCP product that combines high-performance mobile DRAM and NAND flash memory to lead the 5G smartphone era.

The multi-chip package recently launched by Samsung Electronics includes LPDDR5, the same high-performance memory used in flagship smartphones, and is a top-spec solution that also supports the latest NAND flash interface, UFS 3.1.

This product is advantageous for mobile device design as it packages mobile DRAM and NAND flash of the UFS 3.1 standard into one. Samsung Electronics plans to provide mobile DRAM and NAND flash memory in various capacities to support a wide range of smartphone manufacturers.

Samsung Electronics releases various multi-chip packages with mobile DRAM capacities ranging from 6GB to 12GB and NAND flash capacities ranging from 128GB to 512GB.

The LPDDR5 mobile DRAM installed in this product supports a read/write speed of 25 GB/s, which is 1.5 times faster than the previous LPDDR4X, and the NAND flash of the UFS 3.1 standard supports 3 GB/s, which is twice as fast as UFS 2.2. The ship is fast.

Samsung Electronics' LPDDR5 uMCP, which supports the latest memory specifications, allows users of mid- to low-priced smartphones to reliably use services that require large amounts of data processing, such as high-resolution content provided through 5G.

Samsung Electronics has implemented a cutting-edge multi-chip package measuring 11.5 mm wide and 13 mm tall, enhancing design convenience and space utilization for smartphone manufacturers.

“This product will be a memory solution that provides the best user experience to 5G smartphone users, including seamless streaming of high-resolution videos, high-spec games, and even the rapidly emerging metaverse,” said Son Young-soo, executive director of the product planning team at Samsung Electronics’ memory business division. “We plan to strengthen cooperation with global smartphone manufacturers and actively target the rapidly growing 5G smartphone market.”
