The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS, President Lee Jeong-hwan), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency (Commissioner General Lee Moon-soo) have joined hands to enhance investigative capabilities by applying science and technology to security situations.

On the 29th, the Materials Research Institute signed a business agreement with the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency to advance scientific investigation.

This business agreement was signed with the aim of enhancing investigative capabilities by incorporating science and technology into law enforcement settings to prepare for crime scenes that are becoming increasingly specialized and expansive due to advancements in science and technology, and to strengthen the human resources necessary for new equipment.

Going forward, the two organizations will carry out the following activities: △ scientific and technological support for security sites, △ customized security research and development (bulletproof/swordproof materials, illegal drug detection), and △ building a cooperative network and communication to realize scientific security.

Director Lee Jeong-hwan of the Korea Institute of Materials Science and Technology (KIST) said, “KIST possesses many research results that can be helpful in the field of public security, such as the development of optical sensor materials for detecting narcotic substances in sweat and fuel cell power sources for drones.” He added, “Through this business agreement, KIST and the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will do their best to organically cooperate to realize scientific public security so that local residents can live in a safer environment and feel at ease.”
